Summary

During Apollo 17's lunar mission in December 1972, mission commander Eugene Cernan and lunar module pilot Harrison Schmitt described to mission control a sequence of unexplained lights observed against the lunar horizon. The 18-page transcript reproduces the verbatim radio exchange and includes a 2026 preliminary analysis indicating "the anomaly could be a physical object" but adding that "no consensus exists" about its nature.

Why it matters
